Thomas T. Grubbs

Thomas T. Grubbs had served in the United States Army during World War I, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was born on October 19, 1893 in Trestle, Pennsylvania. Grubbs had worked as a miner in Delmont, Pennsylvania before the war. He was employed by the Delmont Gas Coal Company. World War I came and he registered for the draft on June 5, 1917 at the age of 23. He was assigned to Company E of the 320th Infantry Regiment which was attached to the 80th Division. The 80th Division was shipped to Europe in September 1918 and took part in the Second Battle of the Somme, the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, and the Battle of Saint-Mihiel. The 80th was actually the only division to see action during all three phases of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, earning their motto “The 80th Division Moves only Forward.” After the war, Grubbs returned home. He died on August 24, 1967 at the age of 73 and is buried in the Eastview Union Cemetery in Delmont.
