Henry L. Elefante

Born in Vandergrift Henry lived in Parks Township for 53 years. He was unable to finish high school before the war, but went back and was a 1947 graduate of Vandergrift High School. He enlisted for the army in June 17, 1944 at the age of 18 and was active till April 1946 in the 3rd Armored Division, company G as a Tank Driver. He would later become a recipient of the purple heart for injuries sustained in battle. After the war Henry would go on to be apart of U.S. Steel in Vandergrift in the accounting department for more than thirty years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church and men's Club; Bari Club; former Sons of Italy; former officer of the DAV and VFW Post No. 566 of Vandergrift, all of these organizations are located in Vandergrift. He was also a board member of Kiski Valley Opportunities Unlimited. Henry would later die at the age of 89 leaving behind a wife, two sons, a daughter, and 7 grandchildren.
