Dale R. Dunmire

Lt. Dale Dunmire was born in 1921 in Westmoreland County. He resided around Vandergrift. Lt. Dunmire enlisted into the Air Corps in Pittsburgh during March of 1942 when he was about 21 years old. Second Lieutenant Dunmire was one of ten airmen who perished on September 5, 1943 when the U.S. Army Air Corps B-17F Flying Fortress exploded and crashed at Lake Cormorant, Mississippi. He is buried in the Vandergrift Cemetery.
