Robert J. Steim

Robert J. Steim was a staff sergeant in the army during World War II.  He was born and raised in Kittanning, PA before moving to Vandegrift just before the war.  His service ended with many medals including the purple heart.  When he got discharged from the army he worked at Schenley Distillery in Gilpin Township, part of Leechburg Boro, where he lost his arm in a machine accident. In order to return to work Robert received a prosthetic arm and went back to worked at Schenley Distillery until his retirement.  After retiring Robert enjoyed the Alle Kiski Valley, serving as a volunteer for 35 years with the Kiski Area Marching Band. Robert passed away in 2004.
