Curtis Knepshield

Curtis Edward Knepshield grew up in Vandergrift, PA. He joined the army after attending Kiski Area High School, graduating in 2009.  Upon joining the army Curtis became an SPC (Specialist) in the 101st Airborne Division. The 101st Airborne Division is known as the “Screaming Eagles” and is a specialized light infantry division utilized in air assault operations.  The Division has a rich history dating back to World War II and is known for being highly mobile. 

Curtis was deployed to Afghanistan and spent approximately four years fighting for his country in Afghanistan.  During his deployment, journalists Mike and Carlos Boettcher followed his unit over a nine day period, documenting the events of the intense fighting in a documentary called The Hornet’s Nest.  

Curtis separated from service in 2013 and went back to school, becoming a welder.  Like many Veterans Curtis has had bouts with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Since his separation from service, Curtis married and has three children.
