Joseph Bissell 

  Joseph Bissell, born June 26, 1915, in New Kensington, he lived in Vandergrift most of his life. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Army in the Korean War. He was awarded the SS 1st Award. He worked for Alcoa in New Kensington for 38 years and later was an inheritance tax appraiser for the state. Mr. Bissell was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, life honorary member of the George G. McMurtry Fire Department No. 1 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Vandergrift; Apollo Elks; and New Kensington Eagles. A Vandergrift councilman for 16 years, he also was a Democratic committeeman and member of the Vandergrift Auxiliary Police during the 1960s. He enjoyed dancing and gardening. He passed away on March 20, 2002.
