Gioacchino Bigante
Gioacchino Bigante was a World War I veteran who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country. He was born in Pescocostanzo, Aquilo, Italy on October 12, 1889. He then moved to Vandergrift and worked for the United Engineering Company. Mr. Bigante was of medium height and medium build, he had light brown hair and brown eyes. He was single and took care of his parents. He was drafted at 28 and became an Army private. Mr. Bigante never got his citizenship but died a true American. He died in Fort Des Moines, Iowa on the week of November 16, 1918 in an Army camp.
