Anthony P. Amaranto

Anthony Patsy “Pee Wee” Amaranto, 

U.S Army stationed in Germany

Amaranto was born on March 31, 1929 and grew up in Vandergrift. His father was John Amaranto, his mother Stella Amaranto, and his brother was Francis N. “Ace” Amaranto. In 1946, after living in Vandergrift all of his life, Amaranto graduated from Vandergrift High School. He was a passionate golfer, and read often. Additionally, Amaranto was a Christian, and was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church in Vandergrift. 

Amaranto was an U.S. Army veteran in the Korean War. During his war career, he was stationed in Germany. Due to his service, he was a member of VFW, or Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Vandergrift.

After his war career, Amaranto worked in U.S. Steel, and retired thirty-two years later. In addition, he was a member of Lower Burrell’s Hill Crest Country Club for many years, where he also contributed as a pro shop attendant. His wife was Agnes Amaranto, and, together, they had a son, Mark Amaranto. His wife died in November 1997, and later his brother in December 2011. At age eighty-three, Amaranto passed away on April 15, 2012.
