Anthony E. Pocetti

Anthony E. Pocetti

1923-2012

Anthony E. Pocetti was born on October 13, 1923 in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. Pocetti enlisted in the Korean war and served as a member of the United States Army. He was a Private first class (PFC) in the Army. Private first class is the third rank in the United States Army. It is ranked above Private Second class but below Specialist. The primary role of a PFC is to carry out the orders issued from a higher officer.  Anthony did not want his brother Dominick to enlist in the war until he was discharged. The reason for this is because Nick his brother died in World War II and his brother Rocco died from a heart aneurysm. So they wanted to leave one brother at home.

After Pocetti returned home from the war, he became a baker at Kummer’s Bakery in Tarentum. He was employed there for 34 years until he retired in 1987.  Anthony E. Pocetti was married to Elizabeth A. Pocetti otherwise known as Betty.  After retirement, Pocetti and his wife owned the Leechburg IGA Market for eight years. Together they had a child Christopher Pocetti who died in infancy. Anthony was the child of Ralph Pocetti and Mary DeMichele Pocetti. He had three brothers, Dominick, Rocco, and Nicholas, and one sister, Theresa. Pocetti’s interests include backing, gardening, traveling, and woodworking. Anthony Pocetti was a resident of Hyde Park, and died on Friday April 6, 2012 at the age of 83 in the Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.  He is now buried in the Saint Catherines Cemetery in Leechburg, Pennsylvania.

Quote from Anthony's wife Betty on 5/18/17: A kind of considerate, gentle, person. Always ready to lend a helping hand. My Anthony, THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE. He's gone but never forgotten. "Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all".
