Walter R. Hooks

Walter R. Hooks was born August 8, 1931 and attended school in Allegheny Township.  After his graduation from high school Walter ended up serving his country as part of the 8th Army, 24th Infantry during the time period of the Korean War.  Walter rose to the rank of Sergeant during his time in the military. 

From November 1952 to October 1954 Walter served his country.  The motto of the 24th Infantry was First to Fight and this was backed up by the Division being the first to respond to the Korean Conflict.  This division spent the first 18 months of the Korean War on the front lines, suffering over 10,000 casualties before being withdrawn from the front lines for the duration of the war.
