Ralph C. Garman

Ralph C “Carbite” Garman was born on September 18, 1921, in Vandergrift from parents Paul and Rose George Garman. Ralph Garman graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1939. Ralph was an avid swimmer at Vandergrift HS, winning many medals. Ralph Garman also worked as a lifeguard at the former Grifalo Park. Then, in the years 1942 to 1945, Ralph Garman served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. Ralph’s rank in the Army Medical Corps is unknown. Ralph was a member of the Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church in Leechburg and a lifelong member of the Leechburg VFW.  He was also an active member of the Apollo Elks, where he was a former Exalted Ruler and also held many other positions of office. Ralph retired from the Production Control Office of Allegheny Ludlum Steel, West Leechburg Works in 1984. He then moved to Mesa, Arizona, until coming back to Leechburg in 2000. Ralph C “Carbite” Garman passed away on June 5, 2010, and he is buried at the Vandergrift Cemetery in Allegheny Township.
