Leo Gais

Leo Gais commanded in the First Infantry Regiment from 1976 to 1999.

Gais was born on July 20, 1926 in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. Leo Gais was 22 years old when he became an Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a private first class in the First Infantry Regiment in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. 

He worked in the maintenance department for 23 years for the Kiski Valley Water Pollution Control Authority in Pine Run, Allegheny Township, where he retired in 1999.

Gais is survived by his wife of 38 years, Faith Gais; best friend, Queenie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John and Maria Gais, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Domenic Gais and Leo Gais, who died in childhood; and sisters, Edith Antimary, and twin sister, Lydia Cassella. 

Leo Gais died on January 11, 2011 at the age of 84 and will be remembered for serving in World War II for our country.
