Layerd T. Clark

Layerd T Clark was born in about 1921 to Allen and Annie Clark in Parks Township, PA. He met a woman named Gladys Wingard when they were ice skating one day down at the nearby crick when it was frozen over. A relationship formed. In 1941, Layerd enlisted in the Army, knowing he was going to be drafted anyway. In 1942, Gladys Wingard became Gladys Clark when the two married in Accident, Maryland, Layerd wearing his Army Uniform. He was trained and stationed as an Army Ranger in Florida, Gladys by his side. He eventually had kidney bleeding and had to get that operated on, and afterward he finished his last two years of service as a guard at the Veterans Hospital. Layerd’s brother, Homer, also served in the Army at the time, building bridges during the war. Layerd and Gladys had three children: Allen, Carlyn, and Arlene. He settled on a Layerd and Homer’s service is endlessly appreciated.
