James L. Duffman

Sergeant James L. Duffman is known for his actions and participation in WWII. Born on November 3, 1925 in Vandergrift of Westmoreland County. James was enlisted into the United States Army Air Corps on November 15, 1943. He was put under the reserves, that is exclusive of Regular Army Reserve and Officers of the Officers Reserve Corps on active duty under the Thomason Act. James was only 18 when he enlisted into the Army. After his service in WWII, he decided to go to school and get an education. James earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in education from Penn State University. He graduated in 1950 and was employed as a teacher for Mifflin County School District for 26 years, until his retirement in 1989. James was also a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church and was a church elder since 1978 who taught sunday schools and sang in the choir. James L. Duffman died on Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital at the age of 90.
