Walter Kudzman

Walter E. Kudzman was a Private in the 80th Division, 320th Infantry Regiment during World War I. Kudzman resided in East Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. Mr. Kudzman was part of the 80th division 320 Infantry Regiment. The 80th division was also called the “Blue Ridge” division. One of his accomplishments was receiving the World War I Victory Medal. Mr. Kudzman was also mentioned in Chapter III of the book Experiences of the Great War. He is spoken of as one of the men who served with the narrator on the British Front. Mr. Kudzman fought in the largest battle in United States military history. The battle was referred to as the Battle of the Argonne Forest. The battle was fought from September 26, 1918 until November 11, 1918. In the morning of September 26, 1918 at 5:30 after six long hours of bombs, shell and missiles from the night before, more than 700 allied tanks were following closely by marching soldiers, who advanced against the German positions in the Argonne forest along the meuse river. Walter E. Kudzman was killed in action on the first day of the Argonne Forest battle, September 26, 1918. Mr. Kudzman died trying to accomplish the task assigned to him, which was to cut vital German communications running through Mezieres and Sedan. Mr. Kudzman is now buried at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery in Romagne, France.
