Oliver M. Yerty

Oliver Merle Yerty, born October 11th, 1900 in Vandergrift Pennsylvania. Yerty was born to parents Harrison and Mirma Yerty. He did not attend school, but knew how to read and write. At the age of 18, Yerty enlisted into the United States Army to help in WWI. After the endearment of boot camp he went right to work in the 304 repair unit for the Motor Transportation Corp. Private Yerty’s job was to fix up cars that they could ship overseas for transportation. On April 24th, 1919 after serving one year, he received an honorable discharge and came back home. He married Martha Yerty and had two kids Harrison Lee and Norma Jane Yerty. He lived out his life as a laborer and worked in a lumber yard. He later passed March 9th, 1970.
