Michael S. Haggerty 

Michael Sylvester Haggerty was born on November 10, 1890 to Julia and James Haggerty. Before he was drafted into the army, he worked at Jamison Coal Company. He worked as a miner at the company after his service as well. He married his wife, Isabel Newhouse, only a few days before he began his service in the army. 

Michael Haggerty was enlisted into the army on May 29, 1918 in Westmoreland County. He was 27 years old at the time, with grey eyes and brown hair. 

Mr. Haggerty was trained at Camp Greenleaf, which was a medical officer training camp in Georgia. The camp was only operational for 18 months, and was deactivated in December of 1918. Michael Haggerty was sent overseas on September 29, 1918 and returned home on August 20, 1919. He was overseas for a little more than a year, and was a part of the Medical Detachment, 428th Motor Supply Train.  He attained the title of Private 1st Class, and was honorably discharged on August 26, 1919 at Camp Dix. 

Michael Haggerty had a son, Donald, in 1922, who died in 1942 while serving during WWII. Mr. Haggerty passed away, less than two years later than his wife , on January 12, 1975. He was 84 years old.
