James R. Oxford

Private James Rollington Oxford was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on July 23, 1892.  He was slender, of medium height, and had brown hair and blue eyes.  He was married to Mabel Oxford and together they had a son who died very shortly after birth.  They lived on 222 Longfellow Street in Vandergrift, PA and Oxford worked as a pipefitter.  Oxford entered the war at age 24.  During the war, he served in the Navy as a bugler, and then eventually became a private.  He never served overseas.  He died of pneumonia in 1918 at age 26.
