Kindness
Each class period is a family for the entire school year. We will practice kindness, forgiveness, compassion, and patience.
Everyday is a new day. We start over each day with a clean slate no matter what may have happened the previous day.
Abide by the rules of the school.
-Dress Code
-Attendance and punctuality/Tardies
If you are not in my room when the tardy bell rings, you will be instructed to get a tardy slip. If you were with another staff member, you must have a note from that individual excusing your tardy. This is non-negotiable.
-You must wear your school ID in my classroom. If you don’t have one, I will send you to get a temporary ID.
-Possession of a vape is AUTOMATIC DAEP for 30 days. This is state law!
Phones and earbuds will remain in your backpack unless told otherwise. This is your only warning. If you break this rule you will be told to place your cell phone and/or earbuds into the cell jail.
***Special circumstances***
If we have a guest speaker in class, presentations or certain possible field trips, ALL phones will be placed in the cell jail. This is non-negotiable.
If there is an egregious violation, your phone/and or ear buds will be taken and given to the principal. If that occurs your parent must see the principal to retrieve the cell phone and a $15 fine will be imposed for the violation.
Bathroom breaks
-Go to the restroom during your break between classes. If you are late to class, get a tardy slip before you return to class.
If there is an emergency and you must go to the restroom during class, you will sign the sheet by the door, take the restroom pass and wear it around your neck, and your phone MUST remain IN class. You cannot take it with you. If you do not show me that you have left your phone your break privileges will be revoked. This is non-negotiable.
Only one person from my class will be allowed to go to the restroom at a time.
You will remain at your desks until the bell rings at the end of class. Do not try to go stand by the door!
Pledge of Allegiance
As instructed in the Student Handbook, you WILL stand for the Pledge of Allegiance in my classroom until instructed to be seated after the moment of silence.
Food
Do not bring meals into my classroom. They are not allowed. If you need a small snack ask permission. If I find trash, spilled drinks, condensation from drink cups, or crumbs left on the desks or left in my room when your class is dismissed, your entire class will lose all snack privileges for the remainder of the year. The student trash bin is by the door. Use it properly.
Drills
If we have any type of drill during you time in my classroom, you will be punctual in proper behavior during the drill. If we have a fire drill we will quietly leave the classroom, take a left and then go down the stairs. We will exit the building using the door at the bottom of the stairs and we will walk through the employee/visitor parking lot and into the open field area straight ahead next to Longview Street.
If we have a weather drill we will exit our classroom, take a left and then go down the stairs. Our shelter location is the boys bathroom next to the office/counselors office.
If we have a lockdown drill you will treat it as if it were a real scenario. How you practice is how you will react in a true emergency. Every student will move to the front corner of the classroom by the old trophy case. You will huddle up together in that corner and you WILL NOT talk. Administrators and SRO’s will go around checking doors to ensure they are locked so the drill may take a few minutes. They may rattle our door handle, so do not be alarmed. You will remain quiet the entire time the drill is in place..
Participation
Class participation will be the majority of your daily work grades. If you do not participate in discussions, projects, scenarios, etc. it will be reflected in your grade.
Your participation, questions asked, and behavior during a guest speaker will be a test grade.
We must have at least 12 daily grades and 4 major grades per 9 weeks. Your work is due on the due date. We will follow the campus policy of 10 points off per day late up to 3 days. If 4+ days late the maximum grade will be 50. I will follow this policy unless we have personally discussed otherwise.
Required materials
You must have your CHARGED Chromebook available to use each class period. I will not allow you to do your work on a phone. Also have a pen/pencil and paper available each day. We will be doing projects throughout the year. Items needed for those will vary depending on what you decide to create for the specific project. I will give several days' notice for those needed items and it will be up to you to bring the items by the start date of the project. I will do my best to provide most items for the year, but there will be instances where the student will need to provide their own.
Learn and retain the information
We will be discussing a variety of topics that will assist you in your adult life outside of school. Pay attention in class and truly try to learn the information. If you ever need clarification or assistance on anything we cover, or anything in the real world that you experience throughout the year let me know. I am here to help!
Become even more amazing than you already are.
This year will be an amazing year of learning and growth for each of you. Walk forward towards your dreams, be particular about your friends, focus on your core classes and master them, and most importantly have fun!!
I am very excited to meet each of you and to spend this school year with you.
You and your parents must sign the attached course expectation agreement.
You will sign and return the Consent Form and the Course Expectation Agreement forms by August 18, 2023.
Classroom Supplies - you must have your charged Chromebook ready each class period. Other supplies will be made available by the teacher.
