Honors PreCalculus
Students will cover real numbers and coordinates, functions and their graphs, polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and trigonometric functions will be introduced. Students will study analytic geometry and elementary analysis. The material covered will be like that of a college course that includes analysis and real world application.
Financial Math
Financial Math is designed to equip students with critical skills in personal money management and financial decision-making. We’ll cover a range of practical topics, including developing short-, medium-, and long-term financial goals, analyzing spending and saving choices, understanding various forms of financial exchange (like cash, checks, and credit cards), tracking income and expenses, and evaluating investment opportunities. Additionally, we’ll explore concepts related to taxes, insurance, housing (owning vs. renting), vehicle ownership (owning vs. leasing), retirement planning, estate planning, and responsible use of credit. We will apply critical-thinking skills to real-world financial scenarios, preparing students for informed financial decisions.
Late & Make Up Work:
Attendance is important to success in school. If a student is absent, missed work will be in the “Make Up Work” tray in my classroom. Assignments will be posted in Brightspace so students know what happens in class each day. For Financial Math, assignments can be found in iCEV.
Late Work: In Financial Math, late work will be accepted according to school policy. In Honors Pre-Cal, late work will not be accepted
Excused Absences: One day will be given for each day that you missed after the original due date. Extended absences will be handled on a case by case basis. Always communicate with me! I will work with anyone who gives me effort!
Brightspace:
Brightspace will be used for announcements, assignments, reading passages, and a variety of other things. It is primarily there for your benefit, please check there before asking. “What did I miss?”
Classroom Technology:
All Digital Devices: Per the new state law and therefore KHS policy, phones and all other personal devices (including smart watches, laptops, tablets, etc) are not allowed at all throughout the instructional day, and especially during class time. It must be zipped inside your backpack or bag, completely out of sight. If I see it anywhere on your person (including in your pocket), I am obligated by law to take it up. Students who do not abide by this will lose their device without warning, at which point it will go to the front office.
Chromebooks: Only school issued Chromebooks will be allowed. Your calculator for this class will be Desmos on your Chromebook. Students need to come to class with a charged Chromebook each day. I do not have enough outlets in my room for all students to plug in each day. Students are to always be on task when on their Chromebooks and can lose privileges if behavior is not on task and appropriate.
Academic Honesty
All assignments and assessments must represent the student's own, ORIGINAL work. A student may discuss assignments with other students to gain a better understanding of the problem/question, and strategies to solve. A student may also use AI and other resources for the purpose of learning and to gain clarity; however, copying projects, assessments or assignments, whole or in part, from ANY source, is considered cheating and will result in a 0. If the source is another student, the student who copied and the student who supplied the information will both be penalized. These grades will not be open for make-up. I WILL ENFORCE THIS STRICTLY!
