From October 30 to November 1, the 2024 KIS SC Book Fair, held in collaboration with Kyobo Books, filled our school with excitement and the joy of reading. For three days, students and parents browsed through a wide selection of titles, discovering new stories and cherished favorites.
Laughter and conversation filled the halls as families gathered to celebrate their shared love of books. The fair was a wonderful reminder of the power of reading to connect, inspire, and bring joy. Thank you to everyone who helped make this three-day event a heartwarming success! 📚💛

On Thursday, October 10th, 2024, we were delighted to welcome back MaryJo P. Glover, author of I Bite the Bad Guys and The Rooftop Revelers – A Tale About Korean Japsang, to the KIS Seoul Campus—this time joined by her co-authors Joan and Debi, as well as the talented illustrator of their newest book.
For the second time this year, our students had the rare and joyful opportunity to meet the same beloved author team twice—a true gift for our reading community. Through lively discussions, creative insights, and warm storytelling, the team brought their collaborative work to life in unforgettable ways. It was a celebration of imagination, culture, and the power of stories to connect us all. Thank you, MaryJo, Joan, Debi, and our guest illustrator, for making this year extra special at KIS! 📚✨🎨

On November 30, our KIS SC Book Fair, held in partnership with Tongbang books, brought a burst of cheer to our school. Students and parents flocked to the event, eagerly selecting and purchasing their favorite books.
Laughter echoed through the halls as families enjoyed quality time together, creating lasting memories centered around the joy of reading. The Book Fair was a resounding success, a testament to the collective enthusiasm for literature that unites our school community. Cheers to the love of books and the smiles they bring! 📚✨
February20-24, 2023
Seoul Campus celebrated reading with a week dedicated to new books, guest readers, and special events. Every day students inquired, explored, and dreamed about reading!
Students were challenged to complete a BINGO sheet for the week, learn about new cultures, listen to mystery guest readers share their love of reading, dress in their pajamas to dream about the books we've read and we were even able to dress up as our favorite book character!

Battle of the books is a fun & challenging activity for our grade 3-5 students to learn how to love and enjoy reading a variety of books! This year, a total of 14 students have successfully completed this program, and one of our team even won a second-place after competing against 6 other teams!

KIS Seoul students had a great opportunity to interact with the author & illustrator Yangsook Choi, even during the pandemic. She prepared an amazing zoom presentation for our students, introducing her workspace and teaching our students how to create their own characters and stories.
In the summer of 2019-20 school year, students were asked to complete 9 fun & engaging reading challenges. They all had lots of fun accomplishing each task, and also received surprise gifts for finishing the entire task!

Mr. Richard Sobol, a well-known author and photographer, visited KIS Seoul Campus to present his amazing photographs and stories from his unbelievable journeys. His passion for protecting endangered animals truly inspired our students and opened their eyes to a new area.

KIS Seoul students were treated to a unique experience, meeting with 4 international storytellers from 4 different countries! We all had such a fun time listening to many different stories from diverse cultures while learning how to use our body parts to make the storytelling more interesting.

It was a very special day for all KIS members, getting a chance to meet Ms. O’Brien and listening to her mind-blowing stories. Her many years of experience in South Korea affected a majority of her works, and it was very interesting to learn how the people all around the world are the same but different.
On Saturday, April 8, the Battle of the books members performed succesfully during the competition and were extrememly pleased with how well they've done! KIS Seoul went up to the semifinals after they won four out of five rounds in the main competition and arrived at third place proudly.

From Ancient Egypt to modern TV show, author Rob Lloyd Jones had millions of stories to engage our students in reading. He shared his own childhood stories about how a little boy who used to despise reading became an author of more than 100 books, and it truly inspired our students.

KIS Seoul students were presented to a great author and storyteller Margaret Read MacDonald, who is well known with her amazing folktale books. During her story telling session, students were able to stomp, clap, chant, and sneeze while listening to her funny stories from all over the world.

Have you ever written a story with the character that you created yourself?? What problems and challenges did your character have? Where was the story happening? Ms. Yangsook choi, the author of THE NAME JAR, inspired KIS Seoul students to create their own story and shared her passion in both writing and illustrating.
Seoul Campus students participated in their first ever Battle of the Books (B.O.B.) competition, hosted on Saturday, April 23rd by Seoul Foreign School. During each game, our students worked hard as a team and came up short by only a few questions for the rounds in which we did not win. Although SC’s team wasn’t able to advance, we are very proud of our team’s accomplishments, earning two wins during the round robin!

From fun poetry to civil right assembly, David Greenberg engaged our students’ mind to a different literature world. People could hear our students laughing outside of the building during the session! Not to mention that we all fell in love with his great books.

We were treated to a great presenter when we traveled to Pangyo to see author David M. Schwartz. He shared his love of numbers large and small. Mr. Schwartz was a very dynamic speaker who captured the attention and imagination of our students.
