Joining the mission in Tamil Nadu
In 1956, Dr Nora Mitchell joined the Lutheran Mission School, at Vadakangulam, Nagercoil District, to teach religious studies and physical education. Her students are from the local villages. A month long break taken during summer transports Nora away from the heat, to the mission campus (Loch End) on a nearby hill station called Kodaikanal. The Missonaries called it the 'season' break. The photos in these collections show Nora's eye for detail, capturing the life of rural Tamil Nadu as she saw, and lived it. Weekend market scenes, women farmers, goat herders, the fauna and flora, all captured her interests.
