Fourth Grade: Word Study
Updated for SY25-26
Updated for SY25-26
Building foundational literacy skills is included in 4th grade Literacy Standards. We must have explicit instruction aligned to those standards. Students are still working towards mastery of common syllables, syllabification, roots, prefixes, and suffixes. In addition, many students may still be working towards automaticity with more complex phonemic awareness, inflectional morphology, and word patterns. Furthermore, some students may need more practice with beginning foundational literacy skills. It is so critical that these skills are mastered in 4th grade, as language comprehension becomes even more central at this stage. We utilize the 95 Phonics Core Program by 95 Percent Group that includes three teacher manuals, student workbooks, posters, and presentation slides that you can access through Clever by clicking on the 95% icon.
