Third grade is a big year for testing. Your child will take the IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) in the spring. The IAR is ann acheivement test given to measure each child's general math and English/lanugage arts skills. The test is administered to all students in grades 3-8. This is the state's second year taking this form of the assessment. Previously, the assessment was called PARCC and ISAT. All of these tests were created to do the same thing. We will practice for the test in school, but you may decide to have your child practice at home. You can find practice tests and more information here. Since IAR directly related to PARCC and IAR hasn't created its own practice tests yet, the pracitce tests are still associated with PARCC. Don't let that fool you. PARCC and IAR are basically the same, the test just changed its name.
