Math Milestones™ shows the mathematics of each grade level as a set of tasks that fit on one page. Standards and textbooks are dense and extensive, but teachers and students can see the Milestones all at once. The Milestones are a carefully crafted set of tasks that embody the mathematics of each grade, K-8. Each grade’s tasks are a visualization of the grade-level standards in the language of teachers and students.
The grade-level grids have been carefully constructed to reflect the concepts, fluencies, applications, and practices of mathematics at each grade level as defined by the Standards. Across the grades, the tasks follow the progressions in each domain, surfacing key themes like the number line, properties of operations, and functional thinking. The reverse side of each grid includes Standards information for each task.
For each task, there is a student-facing handout . Math Milestones™ tasks are not designed for summative assessment. Used formatively, the tasks can reveal and promote student thinking. Student work on tasks could be collected in student portfolios.
The Teacher Notes for each task include answers, descriptions of key math concepts and relevant prior knowledge, ideas for extending the task, reflection pages for use prior to teaching the task in the classroom, and other features.
For each Math Milestones™ task there is a student handout. Math Milestones™ tasks are not designed for summative assessment. Used formatively, the tasks can reveal and promote student thinking.
