Lunch Project

Directions:

Students act as nutrition consultants to the school lunch program and design a daily meal plan. You will apply problem-solving skills and their knowledge of nutrition to design a meal plan that includes 5 lunches. Using the spreadsheet template (or printed version) students will select food items from a reference sheet of foods and enter the item and amount of a serving, the calories per serving, fat calories per serving, and sodium per serving . If you use the spreadsheet, the totals will all be calculated for you. If you have too much of anything, the box with the total will turn red. When the meal plan is complete, you should mark "DONE" on the assignment in Google Classroom. There is an example provided below.

Real World Application:

The results of this homework will also be shared with food services here at Kinnikinnick School. We will then take into consideration the meal plans that the students have developed in creating the hot lunch menu.

Requirements:

  • Between 550 - 650 Average Daily Calories*
  • Less than 935g Sodium*
  • 1 item from each food group every day
  • All items should be something you would eat! If you don't see what you like, let me know what you would like me to add!
