Monday 12 June - Saturday 17 June 2023
Great schools need great rivalries and none in South Africa can compare to the week long rivalry that is K-Day. The healthy rivalry that has existed for over a century has played a significant role in fostering school spirit, boosting pupil engagement, promoting excellence and bringing our schools communities together for a week of passionate rivalry, in all spheres of school life.
K-day brings with it a heightened sense of enthusiasm and pride amongst pupils, faculty, and alumni. When schools have a longstanding and passionate rivalry, it creates a vibrant atmosphere that permeates through the entire community. Pupils become more invested in their school's success, and they actively participate in supporting their teams, whether it's in sports, academic competitions, or other extracurricular activities. This heightened level of involvement fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie, creating memories and lifelong bonds.
Rivalries provide an excellent opportunity for pupils to develop essential life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Competing against a formidable opponent encourages individuals to push their boundaries, improve their skills, and strive for excellence. The drive to outperform their rivals motivates pupils to dedicate themselves to their studies, athletic pursuits, and personal growth. Additionally, rivalries can teach valuable lessons about respect, humility, and fair play.
We are excited to welcome you to K-Day 2023. Let the games begin.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Leon Grové
College Head
