QUEST
Quest is a class for students who have been recommended to receive extra reading or math interventions during the regular school day. This support is given in addition to the core instruction that a student receives in grade-level ELA and math classes. Selection for Quest is based on teacher recommendation and/or individual assessment data, such as AIR and MAP.
Support for students is provided in the following ways:
individualized, supplemental curriculum that focuses on strategies and skills practice in the student’s targeted area(s) of need.
small group intensive lessons that include strategies to close skill gaps in grammar, writing, foundational math skills, and reading comprehension.

GUIDED INTERVENTION
Guided Intervention is a specialized class for students with IEPs, providing Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) to support their academic growth and development. This course focuses on reinforcing and enhancing skills in reading, writing, math, and executive functioning. Small group instruction allows for personalized support tailored to each student's needs, helping them build confidence and improve academic performance. Students will receive direct, hands-on assistance in mastering grade-level concepts, completing assignments, and using effective learning strategies. In addition to core academic subjects, students will work on strengthening social-emotional skills, such as self-advocacy and organizational abilities. ELL
English Language Learner courses at KJH support students whose primary language is not English as they develop the language skills needed for academic success. Instruction focuses on building proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while helping students access grade-level content across all subject areas. Students receive targeted language instruction, academic vocabulary development, and support with classroom assignments and study skills. Instruction is personalized and may include small group lessons, guided practice, collaborative activities, and the use of technology tools. Each student receives individualized goals through a Language Development Plan, and progress is monitored regularly by certified ESOL teachers using state standards. ELL instruction courses are offered at three levels based on individual language needs. Placement in ELL courses is determined by multiple measures including OEL/MLPS scores, academic performance, and teacher recommendation.
