8th GRADE SCIENCE
Eighth grade science is a study of forces interacting with Earth and its life that occur in the natural and physical world around us. It is an inquiry-based course, where students are actively engaged in the exploration of science with a hands-on, discovery-based approach. This means that students will find information and learn the material by participating in labs, activities, and problem solving as they work in teams. Emphasis is placed on the “processes of doing science” and the practical everyday applications of the concepts studied. Below is a list of the units covered during the course of the year. Each unit is aligned to the Ohio Content Standards for Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Scientific ways of Knowing, and Science and Technology.
