8th GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS
Language Arts in the eighth grade focuses on the development of reading, writing, listening, and communication skills. These skills will be combined in a variety of writing, reading, and presenting based on Ohio’s Learning Standards. Students will complete several pieces of writing and students will read and respond to a variety of genres, including non-fiction, novels, short stories, and poetry. Students are responsible for Independent Reading, both in the classroom and at home. Grammar and language mechanics are studied through the reading and the writing completed in class.

8th GRADE HONORS LANGUAGE ARTS
Eighth Grade Honors Language Arts is a rigorous course focused on advanced reading, writing, listening and communication skills aligned with the Ohio Learning Standards. Students read and analyze a variety of genres including novels, short stories, poetry, and nonfiction, while completing literary analysis, argumentative, and creative writing. The course emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication through discussion and presentation. Grammar and language skills are taught through authentic reading and writing tasks, and independent reading is required both in class and at home. Students who enroll in this course should be ready to explore texts and writing with greater depth, using advanced critical thinking and communication skills.
