We have finished our Drawing unit, using pencil and charcoal. After exploring techniques and using different media, the class drew their final Dragon Eyes and were proud of the results.
In Maths, we have been working on our understanding of subtraction. We have been focusing on column subtraction and looking at pictorial representations to aid our understanding of this.
In History, our topic is Ancient Greeks. We have been learning about life in Ancient Greece, comparing how life was different in Athens and Sparta. This week, we tried to work out how the Athenians won the Battle of Marathon even though they were outnumbered and how the modern day Marathon got it's name.

In Literacy, we are reading Myth Atlas by Thiago de Moraes. We have been reading Greek Myths and familiarising ourselves with the structure of the texts through Drama techniques like freeze frames.

In Maths, our focus has been on Place Value. We have worked on recognising the value of each digit in a 4 digit number, ordering and comparing numbers, finding more or less than given numbers and rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. In the photos, we are using place value counters, playing a barrier game to work out a partner's 4 digit number and rounding numbers in the playground.
In Science, Class 4 have been investigating States of Matter. We are learning about Solids, Liquids and Gases and their properties. We observed water changing to ice and then reversing back to water. We wondered if different temperatures affected how quickly the ice melted so investigated this in small groups.
In Class 4, we use Times Table Rock Stars to help learn multiplication and division facts. This week will see the launch our first battle of the bands. Who will be victorious?
Class Four have been studying Drawing in Art this half term. We have looked at the Artists Adam Miconi and Pablo Olivera and how they draw mythical creatures. The class experimented with a range of mark making and this week, we have tried to use these techniques to recreate images.
Next week, we are going to explore drawing with charcoal and our final piece will be a detailed drawing of a dragon's eye. Keep an eye on our class page to see our finished pieces!
