Spring Newsletter
Year 5 Spring Newsletter
The Spring term has been a fun-filled adventure, packed with fantastic learning experiences for all of our children. In Year 5, we have been extremely pleased with the progress the children have made so far this year. We have thoroughly enjoyed World Book Day, Number Day and Science Week, including taking part in a variety of activities and dressing up.
We hope you all have a restful Easter Holiday ahead of the SummerTerm.
Best wishes, The Year 5 Team.
English
In English this term, we have been learning how to write warning stories and information texts. We have used our Geography learning about biomes to inspire these.
Maths
In Maths we have learnt about fractions, decimals and percentages and how to calculate area and perimeter. We also took part in Number Day, during which we all dressed up and completed a Maths mystery challenge.
Don’t forget to continue to practise your times tables in the holidays.
Reading
In our reading lessons, we have been reading Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson. The book is full of adventure but also supports our Geography work on biomes.
Geography
We have explored biomes in our Geography lessons. We have learnt about the climate and locations of the biomes around the planet.
History
In History, we have learnt about the Kingdom of Benin. We studied their culture, religion and even explored some artefacts. We made sculptures in Art based on Benin arts.
Science
Our science topics this term have included ‘properties of materials’ and ‘animals including humans’. We have learnt about the life cycles of different animal groups and explored thermal insulators and conductors .
DT
In DT, we researched, designed and baked bread. We learnt about the process of milling flour, the function of yeast and created bread of our own design.
Music
During our music lessons, we have been studying the song ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ by Will Smith. We have explored the history of rap music and learnt the lyrics.
