King’s College School, La Moraleja, Madrid is dedicated to helping pupils achieve the combination of skills and qualifications which are essential for young adults to enter our Sixth Form, move on to higher education and to thrive in the world beyond.
In Years 10 and 11, we provide the opportunity for pupils to study a broad range of academic subjects leading to the internationally respected GCSE/IGCSE qualifications.
Pupils entering Year 10 will embark on a programme of study lasting two years with public examinations at the end of Year 11.
All pupils will study English, Science and Mathematics IGCSEs. They will also choose three further subjects in which they will sit GCSE/IGCSE examinations. In addition, all pupils receive tuition in PSHE and Sports. These subjects will not lead to a GCSE/IGCSE qualification. Spanish nationals are required to study Lengua and Ciencias Sociales, and non-Spanish nationals will prepare for the Spanish IGCSE examination.
The British education system and labour market are significantly more flexible than equivalent systems in continental Europe and choices made at GCSE/IGCSE are very unlikely to have an impact on future career opportunities in the UK. Please see the subject pages for further details.
Universities also increasingly look at the GCSE/IGCSE profile of applicants. Pupils must, therefore, ensure that they select optional subjects which reflect their true interests and abilities rather than the perceived “importance” of a subject so that they show they have a wide range of skills and give themselves the very best chance of achieving the best possible grades and developing their potential.
