As the sun's setting on a lovely summers day in the city I, Detective Jotson, was making the most of the warmer evening by sitting on the balcony of my London flat, looking on the reflection in the River Thames. Suddenly, and surprisingly for the time of day, I heard a knock at the door. I lowered my G&T and make my way inside to see an envelope on the mat and no one through the peephole.
The envelope, sporting just my name and no address, had been hand delivered. For some this could be interesting if it hadn't have had the tell-tale seal of a dear friend who would have had many acquittances in London who would happily pop the card in my door. Best open it now, this wasn't going to be a summons I couldn't ignore (even the paper indicated this was going to be a fancy party).
I often think the name Miss Havisham is a bit of a coincidence for a lady obsessed by Charles Dickens' novels and often wonder if she had changed her name to fit the fixation or if he name was the cause of it. No matter, she is a pleasant enough acquaintance and her dinner parties are often talk of the town!
