In The Uncommercial Traveller, Dickens wrote how he had once supposed this to be ‘the finest clock in the world; whereas it now turned out to be as inexpressive, moon-faced, and weak a clock as ever I saw’. It now offers lavish wedding settings in either the Prince Hall or the Queens Hall. It still features the stylized clock which hangs out over the high street.
Although now a lavish wedding venue there is something out of place at the top of the stairs, an old Dewey Decimal library card set of desks. Very literary, this must hold a clue for me.
Four drawers are slightly open and I open each to find one card inside and the last I find a copy of the Dewey Decimal System coding.
One draw seems to have been changed to allow for a combination lock. Seems I'll have to turn it certain ways to open it up.
Another clue I need to get my head round to find out what is going on!
