Moving from greatness to excellence!

A MAT is a Multi Academy Trust, this is a group of schools which work together to advance education for the benefit of children and their families within their communities.
Academy schools are independent of a local authority, but will work collaboratively with a range of external partners.
Academy schools are state-funded schools in England which are directly funded by the Department for Education.
Whilst each school will maintain its own unique character, we believe the following benefits will further advance each school.
The children and staff of all of our schools will benefit from strengthened links between the schools, increased collaboration and sharing of best practice at all levels.
Being part of a strong community of schools enables children to access a wider range of specialist expertise across the group of schools, rather than as a single school.
A great deal of research now exists into what makes an effective MAT. This research will underpin the decisions that are made both during the establishment of a new MAT and also beyond.
Research shows that the increased opportunities for effective staff development within a MAT, attract a high quality of staff to any job opportunities.
Research also shows that these highly skilled staff then stay within the MAT for longer, due to the wider range of opportunities than within a single school.
This is a unique opportunity for our children, staff and school communities to join something new, exciting and innovative, based on proven experiences of established MATs.
Effective research is at the heart of this potential new MAT. Strong and proven leadership across our group of schools at all levels, is supported by a dedicated wider staff team. This will result in a more enabled and empowered school community, who will share expertise and ideas, resulting in the very best educational offer for all of our children.
This is because schools in a MAT can:
share staff expertise
pool resources
share ideas
share best practice
provide training and peer support for staff in each school
reduce costs by purchasing some things collectively
work more innovatively as a result of shared expertise, shared ideas and reducing costs through some shared purchasing
work together to ensure the best outcomes for all children
All of these benefits aims to ensure that great schools become even better and stronger!
The unique individuality of each school will also be protected to ensure all children can access the best provision possible for them.
We are excited about the possibility of creating a MAT based within North Tyneside. North Tyneside is currently in an unusual position in England as there is not currently a MAT which has been created and set up within North Tyneside.
The only schools within North Tyneside which are part of a MAT have joined MAT's which were already established beyond North Tyneside.
By creating a new MAT, we get to influence the ethos, determine a vision and create the governance of any new MAT to ensure the best possible provision for our individual school communities.
This is a once in a life time opportunity.
The governing bodies of four primary schools have been working closely over a period of time and have now decided to proceed to consultation around the proposal to form a new MAT.
This new MAT would initially consist of: Amberley, Holystone, King Edward and Monkhouse Primary Schools.
Should the MAT go ahead, we would hope that other innovative schools would choose to be part of an exciting opportunity.
Because our schools are each very successful in their own right, we would look to retain much of our independence. We want to protect and celebrate what is unique about each school and maintain our individual school identities in order to best serve our communities. But, as part of a larger collaborative structure, we believe we can achieve great things and provide an even better educational experience for all of our children. By working closely with like-minded partner schools we will have the opportunity to share best practice and support and challenge each other in a much more meaningful way to drive school improvement and innovation.
