Re: Essential Licensing Activity and Renewal Information
Date: October 3, 2025
Below is some information to help you as you prepare to submit Professional Learning (PL) activities and license renewal applications to the Regional Standards Board this year:
Licensing Rule 5220.6: It is the individual’s responsibility to obtain the appropriate license, endorsement(s), and any other credentials required by these rules or the applicable endorsement, as well as to meet all renewal requirements and complete renewals in a timely manner.
Make sure your employment information in the VLSE Profile section is up to date so you can be accurately connected to the Northeast Regional Standards Board. Be sure to note your regional representative.
Best practice is to submit the PL Activities you want to use for relicensing for the next board meeting after the completion of the activity. Please see Activities that Qualify for Professional Learning Credit.
Activities with larger time commitments are preferred for relicensing activities as opposed to shorter timed activities (e.g., an 8-hour workshop instead of a 1-hour workshop). It’s recommended that you group similar, smaller activities into a single submission when appropriate. If a workshop is 7.5 hours, you can round up to 8 hours.
The meeting schedule is as follows: Sept. 5, Oct. 3, Nov. 7, Dec. 5, Feb. 6, Mar. 6, April 3, May 1, June 5
Board meetings are subject to change. Please check with your representative. There will be no meetings held between the last meeting in June and the first meeting in September. The last board meeting is June 5, 2026.
Please be mindful of the Board’s deadlines and meeting dates. It’s your responsibility to submit PL Activities on time and in the accepted formats. It’s strongly recommended that PL Activities are entered and submitted prior to January 1, 2026.
Submit your activities and license renewal application by April 1, 2026, to ensure your license does not lapse. If you have not started the renewal process by April 1, your Superintendent will be notified, per AOE requirements. Educators who do not have enough approved activities or whose license renewal is not approved by the Board risk having their license expire.
Review your activities with your representative and proofread prior to clicking the “Save” button in VLSE. Once you save, the PL Activity automatically goes to the Board. Please do not use the system itself as a working document for your activity submissions. It’s best to use a document outside the system and copy and paste your entries once complete. The Board will review your activity and either approve or deny. If denied, there will be an explanation as to what is needed for resubmission and approval from the Board.
All submissions must be made through VLSE. Chrome is the recommended web browser. Hard copies or emailed documents will not be accepted. Only submit items specific to your license renewal, and ensure they are in the correct format (e.g., PDF). Please use the AOE GUIDELINES FOR REFLECTION: ADMINISTRATOR---TEACHER. Make sure to include the PL Activity questions in your submission, provide responses in the designated sections, and explicitly answer each question. Use the following for content-specific competencies for your teaching license(s): Endorsement Competencies.
If you have a Level I administrator license and have been working under that license for 3 years, you must transition to Level II. Your direct supervisor must sign the transition form. For Superintendents, that is the School Board Chair. Administrator Transition Form, Superintendent Transition Form
All communication regarding relicensing will come from the AOE to your preferred email (as listed in your VLSE profile) or via the VLSE dashboard under Activity Feed. Depending on your email settings, you may need to check your spam folder periodically. Be sure to monitor payment deadlines carefully to avoid delays in your license renewal.
Note: If your representative is not present at the standards board meeting, your PL Activities may not be presented or reviewed.
If you have any questions, ask your representative!
Please visit the Northeast Regional Administrators Standards Board Website for all your renewal needs!
Have a Great Year!
