Re: Essential Licensing Activity and Renewal Information
Date: September 6, 2024
Below is some information to assist you as you prepare to submit activities and license renewal applications to the Regional Standards Board this year:
Licensing Rule 5220.6: It is the responsibility of the individual to obtain a license, an endorsement(s), and any other license or credential required by these rules or by the applicable endorsement, to attend to all renewal requirements and to seek renewal in a timely manner.
Make sure your employment details are up-to-date in Educator Profile in ALiS in order to be connected to the Northeast Regional Standards Board. Please note your regional representative.
Best practice is to submit PL Activities you want to use for relicensing at the next meeting after the completion of the activity. Please see Activities that Qualify for Professional Learning Credit.
Activities with larger time commitments are preferred for relicensing activities as opposed to shorter timed activities (i.e. an 8-hour workshop instead of a 1-hour workshop). It is recommended you group similar, smaller activities into a single submission when appropriate. If a workshop is 7.5 hours, you can round up to 8 hours.
The meeting schedule is as follows: Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Nov. 1, Dec. 6, Jan. 3, Feb. 7, March 7, April 4, May 2, & June 6.
Meetings are subject to change. Please check with your representative. There will be no meetings held between the last meeting in June and the first meeting in September. The last meeting is June 6, 2025.
Please be mindful of the Board’s deadlines and meeting dates. It is your responsibility to submit activities on time and in the accepted formats. It is strongly recommended that PL Activities are entered and submitted prior to January 1, 2025.
Submit activities and license renewals by April 1, 2025 to ensure that your license will not lapse. If you have not started the renewal process by April 1st, your Superintendent will be notified per AOE request. Educators who have not had enough activities approved and their license renewal approved by the Board risk having their license expire.
Review your activities with your representative and proofread prior to clicking the “Submit” button in ALiS. Once you submit, the Board will review and either approve or let you know what needs to be fixed through your representative or by email. If you need to revise or edit a PL activity that you have submitted to the Board, you need to enter through pending online applications. Click view details and then the course you are wishing to change.
Everything is submitted through ALiS. Chrome is the best web browser to use. No hard copies or emails of documents will be accepted. Only submit items specific to license renewal and do so in the appropriate format (i.e. pdf). Please use the AOE GUIDELINES FOR REFLECTION: ADMINISTRATOR---TEACHER. Use the following for content specific competencies for your teaching license(s): Endorsement Competencies.
If you have a Level I administrator license and have been working under that license for 3 years, you must transition to Level II. Your direct supervisor must sign the transition form. For Superintendents, that is the School Board Chair. Administrator Transition Form, Superintendent Transition Form
Communication about relicensing will come through email from the AOE to your preferred email (that you designated within your profile). Depending on your filters, you may want to periodically check your spam folder. Watch timelines for payment.
Note that if your representative is not present at the standards board regional meeting, then your activities may not be presented and acted on.
If you have any questions, ask your representative!
Please visit the Northeast Regional Administrators Standards Board Website for all your renewal needs!
Have a Great Year!
