A criticism often levelled at private tuition is that it serves to widen the growing attainment gap between children from more prosperous backgrounds and those from financially less well-off homes. Strongly believing in the right of every child to receive a high quality education, Kilmarnock English Tuition takes this criticism seriously.
I am delighted to announce that from session 2015-16 I will be offering a small number of free slots to teenagers from homes experiencing economic hardship. For every five fee-paying tutees enrolled, one free space will be made available. Students accepted on the 'Mind the Gap' programme will receive the same high standard of tuition and support as all other tutees.
There is currently 1 space available for session 2025-26.
My hope is that parents paying for their child's tuition will view the 'Mind the Gap' programme as an effective way to help 'sponsor' a child less fortunate than their own.
To qualify for 'Mind the Gap' a number of criteria must be satisfied. A potential tutee must:
Evidence a strong commitment to education and learning.
Be in receipt of Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA).
Be due to sit Higher English at the end of the current academic session.
A household must:
Evidence current economic hardship.*
Be located in the Kilmarnock area.
The 'Mind the Gap' programme is based on trust. Please do not try to abuse it. I will not ask to see any of your private financial documents but reserve the right to cancel the tuition at any time if I feel any of the above criteria have been breached or a deception has occurred.
