Tuhi ia rā. Kia 15 mēneti te roa. Kōrero, tā pikitia hoki ki roto i taua 15 mēneti.
Write every day. We suggest to allow up to 15 mins maximum time, this includes the drawing and talking time before the actual writing. (Tamariki don't have to complete a whole story in one sitting. There'll be another day tomorrow to re-read, make fix ups and add on).
Waiho āu tamariki ki te tuhituhi. Ka mutu, kōrero ki a rātou e pā ana ki ngā tuhinga. Ui atu kia pānui rātou i a rātou tuhinga.
Leave them to write then talk about what they’ve written. Ask them to read what they have written.
Hoatu he kōrero tautoko i te tuhinga. Mēnā he rerekē te tuhinga a tō tamaiti ki tāna i pānui ai ki a koe, tuhia āna kōrero. Heoi anō, whakanuia āu tamariki.
Give positive feedback and record what they say about their writing underneath if it differs to what they've actually written. This helps when you re-read their stories later on. Praise them for their 'efforts'.
Checking/hihira for size/shape of letters/words, spaces, capitals, full stops comes last. Only select 1-2 of these to talk about & make a point of practicing them in a fun sort of way. Again, praise them for their 'efforts'.
Use the tuhituhi buttons above to guide you. hihira/check, waihanga/shape, āputa/spacing, pū matua/capital, ira kati/fullstop, tohutō/macron, tātaki kupu/spelling, ira piko/comma, tohu pātai/question mark, tohu kōrero/speech marks, whakaaro/ideas.
