What options do Year 10 and Senior School students have regarding their laptops?
Parents / Students can choose between the school-selected laptop or a non-school laptop model.
School Selected Model
We have a very rigorous tender procedure to ensure that we achieve the best outcome for students and parents, and we work with our partner vendors to ensure that we achieve the best possible price for parents this year. The final price of this year’s model is $6800.
The video on the right is for the Year 2022. All the general information is correct except the date (this year is 6th June) and the new school model (see Model 2023 - 2024 page).
Ordering the School Selected Model
You can order with HP for the school-selected laptop at any time. Please visit this page to order: Model for 2022 - 2023
Non-School-Selected Model (Bring Your Own)
If students are going to bring a new laptop to school then please note the following:
It must have all software installed before it is used in lessons (Office and Adobe* are available to download from school). This is so the laptop is fully functional on the first day it is brought to lessons, to avoid disruption to learning.
It must be a new laptop and run Mac OS or Windows (tablets and mobile phones are not sufficient devices to support the curriculum).
The student must be comfortable using the laptop / operating system. This is to avoid disruption to learning. For example, a student who cannot use their Mac effectively will be unable to complete certain tasks.
The helpdesk will not be able to support the student if they purchase their own device, unlike the school-designated laptop. This is due to the inability to open the machine and there will be no available loaner units. It is important to note that if the machine breaks, it must be fixed in a timely manner with minimal disruption to the student’s learning.
Loaner units / Backup units are part of the 1 to 1 scheme. This means students who bring their own device are not part of the scheme. This means that these students do not have access to the loaner units and must arrange machines to it be fixed in a timely manner (or replaced) with minimal disruption to the student’s learning. Keeping old devices as a temporary backup unit is strongly advised. Other solutions to source a temporary laptop could be asking a relative or asking friends to borrow their old laptops (with them checking that it is okay with their parents).
Non-school models will not be covered by any accident damage policy unless you purchase independent insurance / policy.
Non-school models will have limited access to the network and must ensure they configure the WiFi in order to connect to the internet in school (instructions available at the helpdesk).
It is strongly suggested that students keep their old laptop as a temporary measure if a new laptop runs into any troubles.
For additional peace of mind, for theft and loss, parents might also consider insuring the laptop through your own Home Contents insurance policy or purchasing additional insurance.
