Classroom Expectations
In French class, you are expected to follow all school rules as found in the Student Handbook in addition to the following classroom expectations:
TO STUDENTS: how to succeed in French?
The diamond rule: treat others as you would have them treat someone you love.
Be consistent in how you show up. Always strive to do better. Be prepared and respect the time and boundaries of others.
Take risks in the target language! (Embrace mistakes, it’s how you learn). Taking risks means you participate in class and try your best to use the target language as much as possible – our goal should be 90+ % of the time (exceptions include zombie attack or tornado).
Communicate effectively. Students will be expected to check the Canvas course page and email daily for information regarding due dates, assignments, notes, and other important reminders. Especially when absent! I am not a mind reader so please communicate with me if you are struggling or have questions.
Use cell phones and technology responsibly and for educational purposes only. Please keep your phone in “courtesy mode” or put away during direct instruction and group activities. (Courtesy mode = cell phone facedown, headphones out). Phones may be used for relevant classroom assignments and activities only – meaning you should not be texting, scrolling through Instagram, or making tiktoks during class.
TO PARENTS & GUARDIANS: ways to help your student succeed in French
Canvas Observer Accounts are available. Instructions can be found on my website!
Keep updated with your students grades on PowerSchool! If you see a 0 it usually means the assignment was not turned in.
Email me if you have any questions or concerns!
Encourage your student to practice French at home! Even 5 minutes of Quizlet or Duolingo a day is beneficial. Maybe even ask your student to teach you a new word or expression!
