STEM Information
What is STEM Lab
It’s a place where students work together to ask questions, imagine, plan, create, test, evaluate, improve and share solutions.
STEM Lab will be included as part of the specials rotations for grades K—6 at all three King George County Elementary Schools. For information on what day your child will visit the STEM Lab, please check with your child’s homeroom teacher.
Supply Requests
In the STEM Lab I see all students who attend KGES every week. We use A LOT of supplies. Some of those supplies are reusable (like legos) but some are not (like hot glue). Many of our materials that we use when building are things that are often recycled or put into the trash at home (like paper towel rolls). I am also looking for some items that you might want to clean out of your child's bedroom (Barbie dolls, action figures, and Matchbox cars). If you are able to help with any of these items, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What is STEM?
King George County elementary STEM education uses an interdisciplinary approach in which academic concepts are linked with real world lessons as students apply science, technology, engineering, and math to make connections between school, community, and work, developing necessary STEM literacy for our economy and world.
Critical thinking, logic, persistence, and creativity help students excel at problem solving in all subject areas, no matter their age. Students will reinforce core content knowledge through projects that integrate and align with grade level Standards of Learning. These experiences will incorporate an engineering design process that assists children in creating, designing, and solving problems with real world connections.
