Archiving Class 2024-2025
My name is Larissa Davis, and I am thrilled to be leading this incredible project with a group of dedicated students. As a class, we are committed to preserving the rich history of Shafter High School, a cornerstone of our community for generations. Our goal is to not only safeguard the memories and moments that define our school but also to make them accessible to everyone, from alumni to current students, and even those in the wider community who share a love for Shafter's legacy.
In our class, students work hands-on with historical photos, artifacts, and documents, learning how to properly catalog, organize, and preserve these priceless materials. We use archival best practices to ensure that future generations will have access to Shafter High’s unique story. Each artifact, from a vintage yearbook to an old sports jersey, holds a special piece of our school's past, and we treat each one with the care and respect it deserves.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this class is the opportunity to share what we’ve uncovered with the broader Shafter community. We are passionate about hosting events, curating exhibits, and utilizing online platforms to showcase Shafter High School’s history. Whether it’s a digital archive or a physical display, our aim is to connect people with the past and show how it shapes the present and future of our school and town.
Through this class, we hope to not only educate students about the importance of preserving history but also instill a sense of pride in Shafter High School’s legacy. It’s our mission to ensure that the memories and achievements of past generations are never forgotten, and we invite you to explore, engage, and share in our efforts to keep Shafter’s history alive for years to come.
