Turning on subtitles while watching television or streaming programs can improve literacy by helping them connect spoken and written words, providing valuable practice over time.

When children have books at home, they tend to build stronger reading skills, do better in school, and are more likely to become lifelong readers. A home library encourages reading and supports learning in simple, powerful ways. Every book counts: fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, cookbooks.

TIP: If your student gives a short answer, just use the magical follow-up phrase: "Wait, really? How so?" Let them explain it to you. They will summarize information without even realizing they're doing academic work!
