Hawthorne and Torrence - Staff Wide Expectations
Teacher
General
Prep Time - Per KEA contract, teachers must sign out in the office before leaving the building.
Recess - 15 minute recesses 2x day
Monitoring Playgrounds - Be present on the playground. No cell phone use. Not adequately monitoring the playground is a liability.
Cell phones - Cell phones should not be visible unless they are being used for documentation, instructional purposes.
Computer Time - Purposeful - no longer than 20 minutes. May be a part of small groups/rotations. Teachers must be providing some sort of direct instruction simultaneously.
Sub Folders - All teachers should have the sub folder form completed and submitted to the office in case of a sub.
Updated Schedules - Scheduled need to be updated with any changes and submitted to the office
Parent contact - Teachers should be the first ones to contact parents with student concerns or celebrations to establishing relationships with families. Administration will not be contacting parents until teachers have reached out first.
Parent Communication - Positive regular communication with parents
Weekly Newsletter - What are they learning? How can parents help support? What are they learning next?
Building Committees - Every one joins a committee to contribute to the overall improvement of our building.
Report Cards - Teachers will print report cards and turn them in to the office.
Schedule conferences - Teachers will schedule conferences with parents.
Morning Announcements - Announcement will begin at 8:05 to start the year. There is a possibility of recorded morning announcements later in the year.

Lunch
Specials day
Important announcements
Pledge of A (students have the choice to participate or not)
Character Trait of the month
Chief Chant
Compliment cards / shout outs (teachers make to recognize your colleagues too and submit)
Office Demeanor - Be conscious of your demeanor when walking into the office. This is a place where parents, students, and community members could be located.
Office Mindfulness - Being considerate of conversations while in the office, making copies, checking mail, etc.
Behavior Referrals - Enter behavior referrals (major/minor) in Powerschool in a timely manner.
Hallway Clutter - Keep unnecessary items out of the hallways. Maintain a conducive learning environment throughout the building.
Social Media Presence - Be aware of your voice and influence
Use Common Language - Make best efforts to use common language across the building. (Ex. Really great reading, handwriting posters, Bridges vocab, etc.) - 2.1 - Marzano
Common Planning Time - 1 x per month we will provide planning time for whole grade levels to collaborate.

Reading Interventions - Make sure to use a connected text with interventions. Don’t just practice skills in isolation.
AEA Referrals - Follow the proper steps whenever a student referral needs to be made to AEA.
Early Warning Nomination form must be completed 1st.

Timeout Documentation - Anytime a student is placed in the timeout room protocols MUST be followed. Any documentation has to be reported to the state at the end of each year.

Greeting students - Greet students at the door and welcome them to the classroom.
Evaluation Artifacts - Teachers must provide artifacts for their 3 year evaluations.
Circle of Concern - Worry about what you can control.
Chain of Command - Bring concerns to people directly in charge of the decision.
Assessment
Progress Monitoring - Progress monitoring occurs weekly on Mon, Tues, Wed. Makeups on Thurs, Fri.
Progress monitoring should not be completed more than once per week.
PRESS Inventories - Teachers should complete a PRESS inventory for every student at least once a month to help with instructional decision making.
Title
Title/SPED - Case by case with adequate space. Students with IEPs will typically not receive Title services. However, this may differ per student and
Title Push In - Teachers should be assisting while Title teachers are facilitating lessons.
Teachers need to be familiar with the teaching strategies and vocabulary to reinforce throughout daily instruction.
Allows classroom teacher to continue the lessons if the Title teacher is absent.
This time is not intended for additional prep time - no copies, grading papers, etc.
Exception: Teachers may use this time to pull students to complete make-ups for progress monitoring on Thursdays and Fridays.
PLC
Tech Integration Team - Tech Integration Team members will share new learning with PLCs.
Data Meetings - Data meetings will be held once a month during PLCs. Data must be reviewed regularly using assessment, student work, etc.

Daily Instruction
Teacher/peer observations - Teachers will observe 3 peer classrooms throughout the school year. At least one observation must be outside your grade level. Dates and times recorded and submitted at the end of the year.
Transitions - Transitions should be quick and efficient with clear and proper routines in place.

Breaks - Breaks have to be taken in the building

Be on time - Be where you need to be when you need to be there.
Communication - Share observations and concerns with SPED teacher to assist in making the best decisions possible for students.
Sidebar conversations - Students are the priority, therefore unnecessary sidebar conversations must not happen while in the learning environment.
Assisting the classroom - If the student(s) you are assigned to work with are working independently, move around the room and assist other students in need. Do not feel that you must remain near your student at all times.
Cell phones - No cell phones out unless it’s break time, lunch, or otherwise directed by a teacher. For recess duties, cell phones may be used for emergency situations, preferably with only one associate per playground.
Venting - Venting frustrations should not occur in the presence of students.
Greeting students - Greet all students and help welcome them to school.
