Anna Muller
BIO:
I come from a beautiful city, Gdańsk, located at the Baltic Sea in Poland. That’s where I grew up
appreciating history around me. This is where I first learned about the meaning of history while
earning a master’s degree in history and political science at the University of Gdańsk. I left Gdansk
in 2003 to join a graduate history program at Indiana University. In 2007, I returned to Gdansk to
finish my Ph.D. dissertation and in 2010 I began working for the Museum of the Second World
War, where I co-curated an exhibit on the Holocaust and concentration camps. Gdańsk is also the
place where I continue returning. Even years later it still feels like home. This is also a place where
many of my friends as well as family members live.
While I continue spending most of my summers in Poland, during an academic year, I live and work
in Dearborn, a city in Metro Detroit, where one of the University of Michigan campuses is located.
Below is a list of my roles on my campus as well in the community of Polish and Polish American
scholars:
The Frank and Mary Padzieski Endowed Professor in Polish/Polish American/Eastern European Studies
Faculty Director, Women in Learning & Leadership
Board Member, Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in America (PIASA)
Council Member and Treasurer, Polish American Historical Association (PAHA)
Member, Steering Committee of the Copernicus Program in Polish Studies, U. of Michigan
