What do School Counselor's do?
What do School Counselor's do?
- Short term counseling
- Small groups
- Teach classroom guidance lessons
- Work with parents, teachers, principals, outside counselors and other community supports to help advocate for student success
- Works will ALL students on a variety of topics; such as leadership building, problem solving, and social skills
- Build student and family trust by maintaining confidentiality, unless there is a safety concern
- Provide information about student emotional and social needs

- Provide long-term individual or group therapy
- Assign grades or teach academic based content
- Work "in a bubble" without feedback from a student's home and school support team
- Work ONLY with specific types of students
- "Gossip" about students and their families private information
- Tell others what is best for their student
