About Your Librarian: Susan Warnick
Before I was an employee of the District, I was a parent, a community member, a volunteer, P.T.A. President, and a member of the Kentfield Schools Foundation, which is now KIK. I have a unique perspective because I was a parent, and am now a Teacher Librarian for the District. My son was a Bacich Bear for five years and a Kent Falcon for four years prior to graduating from Redwood High School. I feel that I know this school district, I care about this school district as a past parent, community member, and a current employee.
I was hired in 2003 as "The Library Specialist" which was always a classified position. By 2006 I cleared my teaching credential for the state of California. I held a teaching credential in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and those credentials were reciprocal with California, but I had some subjects to take to "clear" it. I was a middle school and high School English and History teacher in Pennsylvania and New Jersey before relocating to California. After clearing and receiving my teaching credential in California, I renamed myself. I no longer considered myself a "Library Specialist,"a classified, uncertificated title, but the "Librarian Teacher" for the Bacich Library and a "certificated" member of the Bacich Staff. In 2013, I completed the Teacher Librarian Credential, which the District required me to do. It is mandatory to be a "Teacher Librarian" in schools and you also have to be a teacher first. In 2014 I received my authorization to teach Digital Literacy, so I can teach your children how to be "safe" online and how to search and understand the reliability of websites.
What have been some of my favorite moments as your librarian? One of my favorite moments is when I give a book talk and I see the eagerness on a student's face to grab that book! Or when I am reading a story and see the delight and enjoyment or comprehension on their faces. I love the notes I receive from the students telling me how much they love listening to me read or thanking me for suggesting a favorite book. I love seeing their faces in the beginning of the school year when they walk into their library with a new class and teacher. They are so happy to be in the library looking at my familiar, smiling face welcoming them back "to their library."
I LOVE MY JOB!
Thank you to all the parents who volunteer in the library to make it run smoothly. I couldn't do it without you!
