Reflecting on how we think, work, and act in the art studio
Grades 5-8:
Students will earn an Achievement Grade based on their frequency in demonstrating the Learning Standards in Art.
The Achievement Grade is based on the 4-point scale outlined in the Unified Arts section of the Grading Practices Parent Handbook.
Students will also be assessed on their frequency in demonstrating the following Learning Practices:
Formative Work
Meets Due Dates
Engagement
Perseverance
Students will self-reflect on how they are thinking, working, and acting in the art studio at the middle and end of the trimester.

Grades 1-4:
Students will receive an Engagement grade that communicates their frequency in meeting the following expectations during the art-making process:
Use studio time wisely
Follow established routines for setup, use, and cleanup of supplies
Work quietly with thought and purpose
Positively contribute to the studio work environment
Guidelines for meeting the Engagement expectations:
4 - Consistently = no reminders needed
3 - Frequently = occasional reminders needed
2 - At Times = 3-4 reminders needed per class
1 - Rarely = 4+ reminders needed per class
For the KCS Art Show, students write an artist statement to describe what they made, how, and why for their choice artwork.
