Information for Coaches

Tournament Format

Varsity- Pool to Bracket – Two pools with eight wrestlers in each pool; Top two wrestlers from each pool advance to semi finals with winners going to the championship match and losers going to the third place match. The third and fourth place wrestlers from each pool will enter a four-wrestler bracket to determine places five through eight.

Girls Varsity-  Pool to Bracket (Brackets May Vary Within Weight Classes) - Two pools with four to six wrestlers in each pool; Top two wrestlers from each pool advance to semi finals with winners going to the championship match and losers going to the third place match. The third and fourth place wrestlers from each pool will enter a four-wrestler bracket to determine places five through eight.

Junior Varsity- Madison System Weigh-Ins with Six-Wrestler Round Robin Brackets. Placing will be determined by record within the six-wrestler bracket and MPSSAA tie-breaker criteria.

Placing and Scoring

Wrestlers will receive points in the following format (disregarding placement matches):

2 points for each match won by default, disqualification, fall, or forfeit 

1.5 points for each match won by technical fall

1 point for each match won by major decision

.5 points for each match won by decision

Points for the finals and consolation finals will be awarded as follows: 1st Place - 38pts, 2nd Place - 34pts, 3rd Place - 31pts, 4th Place - 28pts, 5th Place - 26pts, 6th Place - 24pts, 7th Place – 23pts, 8th Place - 22pts. 

Varsity – Team Trophy for First, Second and Third Place, Plaques for Top Two Place Winners, and Medals for Third and Fourth Place Winners

Girls Varsity – No Team Trophy, Medals for Top Three Place Winners 

Junior Varsity – No Team Trophy, Medals for Top Two Place Winners

Track Wrestling Information

Please have your Varsity, Girls Varsity, & Junior Varsity roster input into Track Wrestling via the link sent by Ryan Patterson. We also ask for teams and spectators to NOT arrive at the school BEFORE 1:30pm on Friday December 13.

If there are any changes in your line-up, Ryan Patterson must be notified by Friday December 12, 2025 by 12:00pm. Varsity wrestlers who are replaced or switch weight classes after lineups are submitted will automatically be seeded last in their weight class.
